Biscuits and Sausage Gravy Recipe
Ingredients:
Butter
1 1/4 c of buttermilk
1/2 c of shortening (butter-flavored)
1 tsp of sugar
1/4 tsp of baking soda
3 c of flour (self rising, wheat)
1/2 tsp of salt
1/2 tsp of pepper
1/8 tsp of seasoning (Italian)1/2 lb of sausage (pork)
1/4 c of butter
1/3 c of flour (all purpose)
3 and 1/4 c of milk
Instructions:
Combine wheat flour, baking soda and sugar. Mix in your shortening. Slowly pour the buttermilk until everything is incorporated.
Knead dough on top of a flat floured space. Unroll the dough into about three fourth inch thick and cut into little pieces using cookie cutter.
Pop in the oven for twelve minutes at 350 degrees F ’till biscuits are set. You can brush the tops of the biscuits with melted butter. Serve together with gravy.
To make the sausage gravy, saute sausage using a frying pan. Mix until sausage crumbles then drain sausage but reserve a few of its drippings inside the pan.
Mix the butter in. Add the flour to thicken the gravy. Slowly pour the milk into the flour and butter paste. Cook ’till it is thick. Add the sausage and seasonings.
This recipe yields fifteen biscuits and about three cups of gravy.
