Buttermilk Bread Recipe
Ingredients:
3 c of flour (all purpose)
1 pkg of yeast (Red Star)
2 Tbsps of sugar (granulated)
1 tsp of salt
1/4 c of water
1/2 tsp of baking soda (Arm & Hammer)
1 c of buttermilk
1/4 c of shortening
Instructions:
Preheat the oven at (400 degrees F).
Combine (1 cup) flour, sugar, yeast, soda, and salt inside a large mixing bowl. Heat the buttermilk, shortening, and water in a saucepan till warm (120-130 degrees F) and add into the mixture of flour. Beat gently till moistened then beat vigorously for two mins.
Gradually add flour until dough becomes soft. Knead the dough on a floured board till smooth at about two mins. Place dough on a buttered 9 inch square pan; press to even out. Sift over small amount of flour and cut to 12 pieces. Cover and allow to rise for about twenty mins.
Bake for 15-20 mins at (400 degrees F) till golden. Take out from the pan and break them apart. Serve while warm.
