Onion Bread Recipe
Ingredients:
3 Tbsps of sugar (granulated)
1 c of milk; scalded
1.5 Tbsps of oil
1 Tbsp of salt
2 Tbsps of yeast (active & dry)
1/4 c of water (warm)
1/2 c of onion (chopped)
6 c of flour (unbleached)
Instructions:
Using large mixing bowl, combine oil, salt, sugar and milk then let them cool ’til lukewarm. In another bowl, mix water (warm) and yeast. Allow yeast to dissolve before pouring into mixture of milk.
Pour the chopped onions and beat briskly (10 minutes) while adding 4 c of unbleached flour, ’til dough stops sticking to bowl’s sides.
Flour a kneading surface lightly and put dough on it. Knead (8-10 minutes) ’til dough becomes elastic and smooth while pouring in flour if needed to avoid stickiness.
Transfer dough into lightly oiled bowl (large) and coat all of dough’s sides then cover using cling wrap then allow dough to increase in volume (about doubled) while in draft-free and warm area (approximately 45 minutes).
Prepare 2 pans for loaf bread by greasing them. Punch dough and divide into two, then press into pans to form loaves. Cover dough using dish towel allow dough to increase in volume (about doubled) again (approximately 20 minutes).
Preheat oven (350 degrees F). Bake bread for an hour and transfer above a rack so that it will be cooled.
