Whole Grain Buns Recipe
Ingredients:
1.5 Tbsps of molasses
1 c & 2 Tbsps of water
1 pkg of yeast (dry)
1 & 3/4 c of wheat flour (stone ground)
2-2 & 1/4 c of flour
1/4 c of shortening
1.5 tsp of salt
2 Tbsps of honey
1 pc of egg; whisked
Bran flakes
Instructions:
Scald milk with molasses, shortening, honey and water. Stir mixture to help melt shortening. Set aside to cool mixture (105-110 degrees-F and blend in yeast. Mix ’til dissolved. Add the flours, egg with salt.
With a mixer, mix mixture on low-speed ’til well blended. Set aside to rest inside bowl half an hour.
Shape dough into buns or rolls. Press flakes over buns and allow to rise again for half an hour. Bake in a 400 degree-F oven for 15-20 minutes. Makes a dozen buns.
